Year in Review: 2 0 1 3

Another year has passed and another fresh start is upon us.  2013 was an interesting and different year for me.  Although I moved from Louisiana towards the end of 2012, most of my experiences of living up north took place in 2013, so let's just mark that year as the start of my new chapter.  Although I am anxiously awaiting my next move and (hopefully) going back south during this new year, I am thankful for all the opportunities I've had living in New England and the sweet man who packed up his life to follow along and be by my side.  I've had the chance to see and do things I never thought I would experience and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Recapping this past year is a tough one.  Having a blog makes it much easier to reflect back, but since I didn't have mine until about half way through the year, I'm going to have to think real hard on this.  Here's what I've got.  Major thanks to the iPhone photo library for this one, I don't think I'd remember a thing without it!

I began the new year of 2013 with some friends in the French Quarter.  This was my first NYE without Chris.  He couldn't stay in town long enough due to work, so I was on my own, minus the company of some daiquiris and old friends, for this one.

I experienced my first real snow storm, Blizzard Nemo to be exact.  The damn thing left over 3 feet of snow.  The look on our faces when Chris and I had to climb a mountain of snow to exit our apartment the next morning must have been priceless.  Did I mention it was effing cold?  The North Pole ain't got shyt on Connecticut.

Two words:  spring break.  That's what sums up this month.  I traveled back home to Louisiana, met up with some one my best friends, and drove out to Gulf Shores for spring break, grad school style.  When you're pretending you're still 21, it always makes for a good time!

I traveled to the very northern tip of New York (right on the Canadian border) with a friend from school and that's when I realized that while people are already out partying on the beach in the south, it's still effing snowing in the north.

This was a special month of 2013!  Not only was it my birthday month, it was the month I finally decided to start this blog and write my first post!  After a year+ of blog reading and deliberation, I said what the hell and The Southern Thing was born... and then I met y'all!

Lots of traveling took place in June, including several trips to NYC.  After being snowed in during the winter, I made sure to take advantage of the warm summer time.  From the Governor's Ball music fest, to touring the 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial,  I'd say this was probably one of my most favorite months of the year!

July was another busy month filled with traveling.  Chris and I spent our 4th of July in Boston, I took a weekend trip to NYC to visit some of my best friends/roomate from highschool/college, and then I went back home to LaWEEZYana!  If life could be like this year round, I wouldn't mind it!

Once the busyness of summer finally slowed down, Chris and I planned out our next step.  We packed up our tiny downtown apartment and moved to a much bigger and cheaper place!  It took forever to find what we were looking for, but we knew what we wanted and didn't give up until we found it.  This month, on the 28th, also marked Chris and I's 4 year anniversary!  I can't believe I've put up with that man for 4+ years now, but I wouldn't trade it for the world!

This was also a busy month, but not exactly in much of a fun way.  I started my new job that I am beyond thankful for, and then classes started back for my second year of grad school.  I enjoyed my last bit of freedom and then work and school took over.

October was filled with all things fall.  Apple picking, pumpkin patching, haunted corn mazing, hay riding, and zombie roller coasting were all included!

In November, I got way too excited for Christmas and decorated before Thanksgiving!  Chris and I spent our second Thanksgiving away from Louisiana and all of our family and celebrated the holiday in NYC again with his sister.  We attended our first show at the Radio City Music Hall, the Christmas Spectacular ft. the Rockettes and also experienced NYC Black Friday shopping for the first time!

In December, I made my first ever snowman after getting eight inches of snow one weekend.  Then I packed up my suitcase and headed back south to the warm winter.  After spending time with family, Chris and I drove to Dallas to check out our potential future home!  Now all that's left are the blank pages waiting to be filled in my book of life.

It's been a great year and I'm looking forward to an even better new one!

Bring on the next chapter, 2014!
